Great product. I just bought one for my mother, who loved mine when she visited (it's also nice because she no longer has to worry about her tea pot boiling dry and potentially starting a fire). Super hot water in 60 seconds, and if you hold the button down you can make it boiling water in another 10 seconds. I've had my Hot Shot for five years now and it's still going strong. I use it to heat water for tea, oatmeal, etc and it works wonderfully.
The new location for the "On" switch is a little harder for her to find and it is pretty stiff. The ridges help her locate it, but the location of the appliance on her counter requires her to reach an arm's length so when she depresses the button her finger rests on the ridge around the button and makes it difficult to depress it far enough to turn it on. I bought this for my Mother to replace an older model which had built up calcium deposits and leaked badly. She has a difficult time depressing the button to turn it on. The older split lip switch was much easier to work for her. It works fine, just as well as the older model. But my Mother is nearly blind and pretty feeble.
What an awful renovation. The new ones have to be plugged and unplugged to turn on and off instead of hitting the "heat" button. I have been happily using old Hot Shots (home and office) for many years and purchased them as gifts for departing college students. Great, simple pice of equipment to heat water quickly and safely.

I'm very impressed with this product have purchased numerous machines to give as gifts, every one liked them.Do wish they had kept the other style, liked it better than the new model but it dosen't take away from how the hot shot works.recieved the product long before I thought it would be delivered.
Apparently, there were some problems with people accidentally turning the old models on with no water in them. Curiously, we've looked for these at several stores at which we were sure we'd find one.
Just out of curiosity I did an amazon.com search and found that several affiliates had several different versions of the Hot Shot available, in stock, and ready for shipping. No luck, though.
We've owned a much earlier (maybe early '90s) version of the Sunbeam Hot Shot, and it has served us well. It's just as fast at heating up water than the classic model, if not faster, and the opening into which you pour the cold water is more conveniently shaped and sized.
We received ours within a few days after placing an order and could not be happier with the product or the service. In fact, the old machine still works; we just wanted to get a new one.
The current model avoids that problem.
